Hedge Maple
Seedling grown plant, trunk caliper is 1.25 inches just above
the shoulder.The nebari spread is about 4 inches. This is a completely
trunk finished tree. The existing branches can certainly be used as
final branches, but it will bud out all over in the spring for
additional choices. There is great lower trunk interest in this tree.
The right side is not yet complete, but in a few years the roots here
will weld to the trunk and complete the buttress. You can see the
number of trunk chops that have gone into this tree to give you the
great movement. It is a little thick in the top, but some of this may
be carved out, or simply covered with foliage. |

Seedling grown plant, trunk caliper is 3/4 inches. This is a
nice little trunk finished shohin Hedge maple with a nice nebari that
only needs minimal additional rootwork. Good final branching is mostly
already in place. |

Seedling grown plant, trunk caliper is 1 1/4 inches. Trunk
finished Hedge maple with a nice base. It has a large root to the right
that has been pruned back, and this may dieback some more before
healing over. However, I chose to keep as much of this root as possible
since this tree could have a really nice spreading nebari after a few
years work. It is a little thick in the top, and the apex could be
lowered. |

Acer ginnala
Amur Maple
Seedling grown plant, trunk caliper is 1.3 inches. This is a
trunk finished tree with a nice graceful trunk movement and gentle
taper. Plenty of final branch choices already and it will undoubtedly
bud out more in the spring. There is an area of shari extending into
the root on the right side. This phenomenon is common on this species
and makes a nice feature. |
